Public Lecture: Architecture and the Right to Housing in Los Angeles

Ananya Roy and Julie Eizenberg with Dana Cuff and Karen Kubey

UCLA Architecture and Urban Design, Los Angeles | October 20, 2025

This public lecture and panel discussion explored how the right to housing—in Los Angeles and globally—isn’t just a political, legal, and economic issue, but also an architectural one. What does the right to housing mean in practice? And how can designers contribute?

Keynote speakers Ananya Roy, UCLA Professor of Urban Planning, and architect Julie Eizenberg were joined by Dana Cuff, founding director of cityLAB UCLA, and Architecture and Housing Justice Lab founding director Karen Kubey.

About the Presenters

The lecture was convened by cityLAB UCLA, UCLA Architecture and Urban Design and the Architecture and Housing Justice Lab. It was made possible through the generous support of the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Irving Grossman Fund in Affordable Housing, cityLAB UCLA, and UCLA AUD.
