Public Roundtable: Architecture and the Right to Housing in Brazil
Featuring Ester Carro, Carmen Silva, Bianca Tavolari, Renato Cymbalista, and Karen Kubey
Brazilian Institute of Architects, São Paulo, Brazil | August 14, 2025
This public roundtable explored how the right to housing—both in Brazil and globally—isn’t just a political, legal and economic issue, but also an architectural one. What does the right to housing mean in practice? And how can designers contribute? The Daniels Architecture and Housing Justice Lab’s founder Karen Kubey was joined by Carmen Silva (Downtown Homeless Movement - MSTC), Ester Carro (Fazendinhando Institute), Bianca Tavolari (Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning) and Renato Cymbalista (Community Rental Housing Fund - FICA).
